Dear Friend in the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Prayerful Greetings from the Society of the Oblates of the Sacred Heart (OSH)! The Society of OSH was founded in Kerala in 1921 by the Bishop Mar Alexandar Chulaparambil. The purpose of the Society is the personal sanctification and to propagate and spread the love of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus through various pastoral ministries such as parish ministry, family visits, education, ecumenism, social service activities etc. The Charism of the Society of OSH is the living and transmitting of the love of the most Sacred Heart of Jesus. They share the love of Jesus, from ones own life experience with Jesus, to others. The love of Jesus is expressed and transmitted through its various activities of apostolate.
For years we have been praying for an increase of vocation to priesthood and religious life. God has answered our prayers, especially through the Society of OSH. We have a lot of candidates coming every year to our seminary answering to the call of God. We are very happy to say that this year we have the ordination of 5 deacons to priesthood. Our problem is not with regard to the number of seminarians, but with regard to the fund for their formation.
The OSH Fathers need your help to educate our seminarians in their studies to priesthood. Will you help us to support one of our seminarians? Individual sponsorship of seminarians is one way of support. If you sponsor a seminarian he will be considered as your son / brother in Christ. He will write to you occasionally and more than that he will pray for you everyday. What we expect from your part is to keep him in your prayers and to send him a cash donation occasionally.
What you are Expected to do as a Sponsor? - Daily, or whenever possible, pray for your seminarian and for all OSH Fathers.
- Regular offerings made toward the support of your seminarian.
Your Seminarian: Your kind financial offerings will be applied toward the seminary formation of a Seminarian of the Society of OSH. And needless to say, he will pray for you and yours.
What are the Spiritual Benefits for the Sponsors of the Seminarian? - Members of the Society of OSH pray for their Benefactors everyday.
- In all Houses OSH every month a special Mass is offered for all the Benefactors.
- All priests of the Congregation offer a Mass every year for all the Benefactors.
What is the normal duration of OSH Seminary Training? - Minor Seminary -1 year (Period of initiation into the seminary and the Life in the OSH)
- Minor Seminary - 2 years of Higher Secondary School study and spiritual formation
- Novitiate - 1 year (Period of intensive spiritual and religious formation)
- Philosophy - 3 years (Period of study of various branches of philosophy)
- Regency - 1 year (Period of practical training and ministry)
- Theology - 4 years (Period of study of various branches of Theology and Liturgy)
